CR Step Study Lesson 21 – Relapse

Posted on

RelapseLesson 21 Principle & Step:

Principle 7: Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

Step 11: We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” Colossians 3:16

To me, the best way to sum up this lesson is to say more of God and less of me.

Lesson 21 – Highlights:

Reserve a daily time for God: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak”. Mark 14:38

Evaluate: Take a physical, emotional, relational and spiritual evaluation. Ask yourself am I…

Listen to Jesus: Stop and listen. “Listen to the Lord. Hear what He is telling you.” Isaiah 1:10

Alone and quiet time: It is time to take an adult time out, unplug and disconnect. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Plug into God’s power through prayer: Pray intentionally, be bold and pray about everything! “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything, tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank Him for His answers.” Philippians 4:6

Slow down so you can hear God answers: Our timing is flawed yet God’s timing is perfect. “… listen to me; be silent and I will teach you wisdom.” Job 33:33

Enjoy your journey: It is time to celebrate all successes no matter the size, just CELEBRATE! Remember an attitude of gratitude will make more room for gratefulness. Your growth is inspiring to others so REJOICE! “Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances…” 1 Thessalonians 5:16

Four suggestions to prevent relapse:

  1. Spend time in God’s word
  2. Attend CR meetings regularly
  3. Spend time with family (if safe) and church family
  4. Volunteer, give back with service to others

Spending time with God is so rewarding. Beautiful things happen when we surround ourselves in His presence. Click on my podcast below to cover questions that help us dig deeper into time with God.

  1. Rate your listening skills 1 to 10, 10 being best. What specific ways can I improve my listening skills with God and others?
  2. Describe what a “quiet time” means to you and why it is important.
  3. How could you improve your prayer time? Be specific. When do I pray? Where do I pray?
  4. After you pray, do you slow down long enough to hear God’s answer?
  5. What does the word “meditation” in this step mean to you?
  6. What are some other things that you do in your recovery to help you on your journey and prevent relapse?
  7. I think we will all agree that recovery is a joy, but it also requires hard work. What do you do to celebrate your recovery—even the small victories?

Recovery is not meant to be a solo journey. There is power in numbers so I strongly recommend that you find a Celebrate Recovery group in your area. To find one near you click here. Remember… JOY is a choice, so choose well!
