Lesson 8 – Highlights:
Why do I need a sponsor and or an accountability partner? The answer is simple. It is biblical.
A sponsor will help you:
- Maintain a realistic view of your recovery
- Increase your commitment to attending meetings
- Lean on God for strength and encouragement
- Get involved in giving back
Qualities of a Sponsor:
- Do their actions mirror their words?
- Do they have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ?
- Do they desire to help others on the journey of recovery?
- Do they express compassion, care, and hope?
- Are they a good listener?
- Are they strong enough to confront your denial/procrastination?
- Are they willing to offer suggestions?
- Are they willing to appropriately share their personal struggles?
The Role of a Sponsor:
- They would be available to schedule regular face-to-face meetings.
- They are available in times of need and or crisis.
- They would serve as a sounding board and provide objective feedback.
- They encourage you to work the principles at your own pace.
- They model the lifestyle resulting from working the eight principles.
Finding a Sponsor/Accountability Partner:
- They MUST be the same gender as you!
- Pray God will bring the right person to you
- Ask CR ministry leaders for available sponsors/accountability partners
- Enquire on the CR website for available sponsors/accountability partners in your area
- Be patient and trust God
