CR Step Study Lesson 1 – Denial

Lesson 1 – Principle & Step:Denial

Principle 1:  Realize I’m not God.  I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.  Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor.  Matthew 5:3

Step 1:  We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors—that our lives had become unmanageable.  I know that nothing good lives in me, that is in my sinful nature.  For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.  Romans 7:18

Lesson 1 – Highlights:

  • Disables our feelings:  When we repress our feelings we freeze our emotions.
  • Energy loss:  A side effect of denial is anxiety.
  • Negates growth:  We are only as sick as our secrets.
  • Isolates us from God:  Our denial keeps us in the dark.
  • Alienates us from our relationships:  We think no one knows we are hurting, but they do.
  • Lengthens our pain:  We think denial protects us, instead our pain festers and turns into guilt and shame.

Can you relate to any of the statements above?  Are you in denial about any aspect of your life?  The questions below are helpful to overcoming Denial.  Click on my podcast below and let’s answer these questions together.
